Eddy Bopp, co-founder of the Dutch rock band Vandale, has been a key figure in the scene since 1979. Known for integrating Dutch lyrics, Vandale distinguished itself early on with two albums in the 1980s. After industry setbacks, they regrouped in the early 2000s, releasing a single in 2008 and a celebrated album in 2017. With a new multi-release deal with OOB Records in 2024, Vandale—now with Marcel Van Den Berg on vocals and guest appearances by Dutch Nederpop icon, Henk Westbroek—is marking a major comeback. The Vandale 2024 triple-single series—”Waar Gaat Dit Heen,” “Leef en Laat Leven,” and “Vloeibaar“—released through OOB Records (Rotterdam), was released as one single every 3rd month, and is available on digital platforms worldwide.
“Waar Gaat Dit Heen” reflects on the pandemic, wars, and global crises; “Leef en Laat Leven” is a powerful rock ballad tackling climate change, political unrest, and societal upheaval in the Netherlands; and “Vloeibaar” dives into shifting perspectives on dating, gender, and generational tensions. The latter featuring Henk Westbroek on lead vocals and as co-lyricist. Westbroek, who needs little introduction in the Dutch music scene, famous for his work with Het Goede Doel (“Zelfs Je Naam Is Mooi,” “België,” “Vriendschap”) and as a lyricist for other Nederpop hits, also boasts a background in radio (Vara, 3FM) and local politics. His collaboration with Vandale signals a powerful new chapter for the band and the Nederpop genre.
