Ton Scherpenzeel is most known for his 48 year career as composer, lyricist, keyboardist and a founding member of the world renowned prog rock band, Kayak. He is also known for his years as keyboardist for prog rock band Camel (UK) and Earth and Fire (NL). In addition to his band and solo careers, Ton is known as an avid composer and musician in the theater and film scene as composer and producer of multiple musical productions, including over fifty musical scores for the national youth theatre; and in 1980, he wrote the score for the Dutch movie Spetters, featuring Rutger Hauer. He has also been involved in many record productions in the Netherlands, including producing two albums of Dutch iconic folk band, Flairck. Since 1984 till present, Scherpenzeel is credited with composing almost all music behind songs of Dutch comedian Youp van ‘t Hek, and is scheduled to perform with Youp in many live theater shows for De Laatste Ronde tour, (2022-2024). Scherpenzeel’s musical style is diverse and encompasses a wide range of genres, blending progressive rock, symphonic, ambient, and electronic elements, with classical influences into his compositions.
